| The State of the Black World Conference 2008. "This was the first great gathering of Black people from the U.S. and the Black world after the election to develop a priority policy agenda to present to the new administration," said Dr. Ron Daniels [the event's organizer]. Read more here...
Why it's important to YBPs.
This event didn't just discuss Black issues with religious and political leadership, it was a weekend collaboration to present an agenda that would serve the needs of us all. As we scanned the crowd via satellite, we noticed a lack of Young people. This is part of what keeps success so close, yet so far away. The brilliance of the ones before us must be connected with the brilliance in today's YBP. The leaders called out for us, asking our whereabouts and readiness to lead... But how many of you were unaware this took place? We were unaware, until a YBP sent it to us in time to view it over the Internet. This is why we have to Stay Connected! |

The Big 3 Bailout - is $15 Billion enough? WASHINGTON – Congressional Democrats sent the White House an emergency $15 billion auto bailout plan Monday, complete with provision of a "car czar" to oversee the industry's reinvention of itself. The Bush administration said there had been progress toward agreement but pressed further negotiations into the night. The measure would rush bridge loans to Detroit's struggling Big Three but would also demand that the auto industry restructure itself in order to survive and would put an overseer chosen by President George W. Bush in charge of monitoring that effort, according to the draft obtained by The Associated Press. Read more... Why it's important to YBPs. Take a look at these companies' assets. Some companies' assets are almost double the revenue. How? Simple. They own interests in other companies - even companies they say are "competitors". Ever wonder who owns certain media outlets? Take a look here. When games are played on both sides of the fence, the casualties are workers. This is also how war is conducted. International bankers finance both sides and the soldiers and citizens pay the cost. The oil companies have been reporting record profits for the last several years while taxpayers paid at the pump. Is it out of the question to ask them to help out in this situation? All of this demonstrates misguided priorities. Every citizen should take responsibility for setting up priorities properly. Even still, many Americans are struggling to decide which is more important: the utility bill or a showful holiday. |

Obama Choosing Cabinet. WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A new national poll suggests that Americans think President-elect Barack Obama's getting it right when it comes to his Cabinet picks, especially Hillary Clinton and Robert Gates. Seventy-five percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey approve of Obama's Cabinet choices, with 22 percent disapproving. That's 16 points higher than those in favor of then President-elect Bush's Cabinet picks eight years ago. The poll indicates that 71 percent approve of Obama picking Sen. Hillary Clinton for secretary of state. Democrats overwhelmingly approve of the choice, with two-thirds of independents agreeing and Republicans evenly split on the pick. Why it's important to YBPs. These are the household names that history will write about. It's a good idea to get familiar with their policies and recommendation - both which may directly affect YBP careers. If this administration opens up opportunities, YBPs should be at the top of the list ready to fill these new frontiers for change. You can even start here. On an individual level, start taking classes that will prepare for careers yet to arise, instead of ones that are already flooded. This recession should not be a digression from life's purpose. Reread the blog from passion to paycheck to remember how YBPs can find opportunity in these times. |
